The Short Squeeze

We can't count the number of times the shorts—the hedge funds who make big bets on the demise of a company—have been dead wrong. So much so, in fact, that one of our most successful trading strategies has been to scour the list of the most heavily-shorted names for diamonds in the rough. Want some past examples? How about Tesla (TSLA), which has been hated by short sellers since they came out of the gate. Instead of admitting defeat and moving on, they would often double down on their money-losing positions. Or how about Beyond Meat (BYND), a plant-based meat producer that we bought within the Penn New Frontier Fund within minutes of it going public—for around $50 per share. Then there is Peloton (PTON), or Palantir (PLTR), or iRobot (IRBT). The list is endless.
Due to our own success with this method, and after the GameStop short squeeze, we decided to start publishing a list of the most heavily-shorted names for our clients and members. Short float information is reported to the SEC twice per month, so we will keep the list as updated as possible. Take a deeper dive into a few names that look interesting and do some fundamental research. There is nothing quite like the feeling of making money while watching the shorts who bet against your company take it in the, well, shorts.
