Debt
I once had a business partner who loved to blather "you've got to spend money to make money!" Sadly, he only got the first part of the equation down to a science. Debt is one of the greatest problems in our society, and, as that old proverb goes, "a fish rots from the head down." Our federal government has amassed $31 trillion in national debt, so why wouldn't the typical American family follow their lead? The average American household carries a debt load of $137,000. Sure, a good portion of that resides in the note to a pretty solid investment: their home. But, sadly, US families have racked up $4 trillion in consumer debt ($841 billion of which reside within credit card balances) and over $1.5 trillion in student loan debt. This enormous boulder weighs on virtually every aspect of our lives, from interpersonal relationships, to our work life, to how we eat and where we shop. We must end the madness. It is time to label debt as the enemy and declare an all-out war on this monstrosity.
